Next Book Sale will take place:
Fall 2017 – Oct 14th and 15th
Maritime Hall, Halifax Forum
Saturday (Aug 5th) was such an amazingly busy day for donations – we are jam-packed with bags and boxes, so we are asking people to delay bringing any more donations until after the next sale – if you are moving we will take them but we need time to catch-up and make space! We will be back accepting all donations October 23rd. In the meantime we will be busy sorting and pricing. Thanks for your cooperation!
For our major fundraiser we rely on the generous donation of good quality, gently used books and CDs from the public. Below are specifics as to the type and condition of the donations required as well as the details of the location and times our Book Depot is open. Please note we continue to collect donations all year.
Our book sales are successful because we offer only good quality, clean, gently-used books. Please help us by donating only what will sell – mystery, fiction, history, biographies, science fiction, etc., plus CDs and DVDs.
Because our customers do not buy them, we do not accept the following: encyclopedias, books sets, ex-public library items, Readers Digest books, text books, VCR tapes or magazines. The following categories sell very poorly: computer & business, self-help, sociology, psychology and life-style thus we only accept ones that are less than 3 to 5 years old.
Children’s books should be in mint condition unless they are vintage i.e. >40 yrs old. Smelly, dusty and mouldy books are also unacceptable as they are a health risk to anyone handling them.
As of April 2017 we have to pay to take recycling to the Recycling Depot. For us to recycle books, we must remove the hard covers and place in garbage bags. The leftover paper and paper backs go in the paper recycling. This is time, effort and money taken away from readying books for the sale. We appreciate you cooperation and help.
Book Depot – Location:
Our Book Depot in the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts, 6199, Chebucto Road. Use the basement door located near the cross walk on Chebucto Road across from Chebucto Lane. A large yellow sign will be posted outside the building door when there is someone present to receive the books. In case of closure due to weather a notice will be posted on our facebook page and the first page of the website.
